Pianos & heavy items

Piano and grand piano movers in Brisbane

SwiftMove moves upright pianos, grand pianos, pool tables and other heavy or delicate items by prior assessment. Tell us exactly what the item is and show us the complete access route at both properties.

Stairs, tight turns and the item's dimensions can change the crew, equipment and price needed for the job. We would much rather assess it from photos first than turn up with the wrong gear.

  • Uprights, grands, pianolas, slate tables and safes
  • Assessed from photos before the crew is set
  • Stairs and tight turns can change the rate
  • No crane lifting, tuning or table levelling

Why a piano is booked differently to a couch

  • What to send for an assessment

Photos of the item, its dimensions and approximate weight if known, plus the stairs, landings, doors and the route between the parking position and the item. Identify an upright, grand or pianola accurately; their handling differs.

  • Assessment first, then the crew

A photo or video is often enough to begin the assessment, but it is not automatic confirmation that the move can be accepted. Work may be declined where the load or access cannot be handled safely by the available team and equipment.

  • Equipment and agreed disassembly

Lifting straps, protective coverings, securing straps, trolleys and moving dollies travel with the crew. We carry out agreed furniture and grand-piano disassembly and reassembly where suitable for the booking.

  • What we don't do

We do not provide or arrange crane lifting. Piano tuning is not included. We can disassemble and reassemble suitable pool tables, but precision levelling of the playing surface is a separate specialist service we do not provide or supply.

  • Stairs can change the rate

Stairs, tight turns and long carries change the crew, the equipment and sometimes the hourly rate. Mention them and send photos when you book, so the rate is agreed before the day rather than revised on it.

  • It gets its own slot

Heavy items are scheduled with the right gear already on the truck rather than squeezed onto the end of another job. That's why we ask about anything over 100kg at booking.

What we're being asked to move

Most common

Upright pianos

Spinets through to full uprights. The common one, and the one where stairs and doorway width decide the crew size more than the weight does.

Grand & baby grand

Prepared, protected and secured for the route, with agreed disassembly and reassembly at the other end. Allow more time at both addresses than an upright.

Pool tables, safes & machinery

Suitable slate billiard tables disassembled and reassembled, jacuzzis, gun safes and workshop gear, each assessed individually.

A piano or other heavy item may require an individually assessed price rather than the standard hourly arrangement for a general household move. Stairs can also increase the hourly rate. We assess the item and access, then agree the scope and price before booking.

Three SwiftMove movers with a trolley beside their truck

The single thing that changes the price: telling us early

A piano discovered on the morning of the move is a different job to a piano that was on the booking. Two movers and a standard load-out become three movers, skates and an extra hour, and that is the conversation nobody wants to have in a driveway with a truck already half loaded.

So we ask about anything over 100kg when you book, and we'd rather you over-disclosed. A jacuzzi you assumed we'd know about, a safe in a wardrobe, a treadmill upstairs — mention all of it.

Disclosed up front, it is assessed, quoted and scheduled. If the actual item or access differs from what was described, additional work must be discussed first.

A grand piano delivered to a third floor

During a larger move from Auchenflower to the central Gold Coast, two SwiftMove specialists delivered a grand piano up a narrow staircase to the third floor. Read the complete moving story to see the context. That individual result is not a promise that the same crew size will suit another instrument or staircase.

Questions we get about this, specifically

How much does it cost to move a piano in Brisbane?

A piano or other heavy item may be priced individually rather than at the standard hourly arrangement for a general household move, and stairs can also increase the hourly rate. We assess the item and access from your photos, then agree the scope and price before booking. If the actual item or access differs from what was described, additional work is discussed first.

Do you move grand pianos?

Yes, by prior assessment. The instrument is prepared, protected and secured for the route, with agreed disassembly and reassembly at the other end. It takes longer at both addresses than an upright, so tell us it's a grand when you book and send photos of both access routes.

Can you get a piano up or down stairs?

Often, after assessment, and it is the most common reason a job gets a third mover and a different rate. Tell us how many steps there are at each end, whether there is a turn or a landing, and how wide the stairwell is. If access is unsafe or the required handling is outside our capability, we may decline the work. We do not provide or arrange crane lifting.

Will my piano need tuning after the move?

Almost certainly. Any piano that has been moved should be tuned once it has settled into the new room, usually a couple of weeks later, because it needs time to adjust to a different humidity and temperature. Piano tuning is not included and should be arranged separately.

Do you move pool tables?

Yes, suitable tables are disassembled and reassembled by arrangement. Precision levelling of the playing surface is a separate specialist service: SwiftMove does not provide it or supply the levelling specialist, so book that in advance if the table gets used.

Why do you ask about anything over 100kg?

Because it changes the crew size, the equipment we load onto the truck that morning and sometimes the price. Disclosing it up front is what lets us agree all three before the day. Turning up to a job that needs skates without skates helps nobody.
